Our Collection
We have extensive print and microfilm resources including government records, Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, Census, Teacher's Returns, Vital Statistics, books on genealogical research, family histories, indexes to newspaper articles and historical scrapbooks.
Miscellaneous Index
The Miscellaneous Index refers to the index housed in the two wooden cabinets in front of the Family History Section of the Information Centre.
The Index, as well as a large block of genealogically related material, was transferred to the Saint John Regional Library in 1987. It indexes a sizable part of that transferred material including scrapbooks, family history files (known as CBs). Although many newspaper items/articles may be cited in the Index it should not be considered an index to any particular newspaper.
The emphasis of the Miscellaneous Index is local. Articles covering people, places, events and things in our city, Saint John County and surrounding areas are included. Information on the North Shore, for example, is unlikely to be cited.
Family Histories
The Saint John Free Public Library holds a number of family histories, both published and unpublished about various families from across the province.
